Jacki Proffitt at latheDad turned us loose in his woodworking shop to turn when we were teenagers.but what he didn't know is that we were sneaking down to the shop after he was gone, just so we could work freely on our own.

We decided to enter the wood-working world full time in July of 1993.

For both of us turning wood is a means of expression. It begins as a challenge, continues as a mystery -- and emerges as something totally beautiful.

We use woods native to the Gatlinburg area - poplar, hard woods and wormy pieces that tell stories of old barns or historic buildings that once stood majestically in early Gatlinburg.

Jacki and JanisBoth of us have taken courses and helped teach at Arrowmont School. We have also taught weaving courses to the school children during the winter months on small looms made in our shop.
